Atrial Fibrillation

This case comes from Dr Aneesha Thouli and Dr Brad Stebner.

Dr Brad Stebner is a staff emergency physician at Kelowna General Hospital. His interests include medical education and leadership, sports medicine, and health care administration. He is particularly interested in using simulation to evaluate system efficiency, crisis resource management, and interprofessional collaboration.

Dr Aneesha Thouli completed medical school at the University of British Columbia – Southern Medical Program. She is now a PGY-1 Emergency Medicine resident at UBC.

WHY IT MATTERS

This case explores stable, chronic atrial fibrillation converting into tachy-brady syndrome which requires a careful workup and thoughtful management.

CLINICAL VIGNETTE

80 y/o female brought in by EHS for palpitations and dizziness. 

CASE SUMMARY

82-year-old female endorsing palpitations with a history of syncope. This case will progress through assessment and management of atrial fibrillation and tachy-brady syndrome. Learners will be required to apply atrial fibrillation guidelines, specifically around anti-coagulation.
